Welcome to Leading People with me, Jerry Murray. This week it's One Simple Thing, where in each episode I share a quick, actionable tip to help you bring out the best in yourself and others. One simple thing is created for young leaders. But hey, us older folks can still learn a thing or two? Ask my dog, he's learned a few new tricks recently. Here's a question for you. Why do so many people leave managers, not organizations? We've all heard that before, but have you ever stopped to ask yourself what kind of manager am I? What kind of manager do I really want to be? And what impact am I having on my team? To help you answer these questions and many more, I've created a new series of one simple thing episodes where we'll explore how to become brilliant at the basics of management and evolve into the kind of leader that people genuinely want to work for. Whether you're just stepping into your first leadership role or you've been managing people for years, these short episodes are designed to help you reflect on your practice, sharpen your skills, and develop habits that will help you bring out the best in yourself and your team. Over the next few episodes, I'll share insights drawn from our Team Leader Essentials program, a course that has helped thousands of new managers make that critical shift from individual contributor to confident people leader. We'll tackle things like learning to lead yourself before you try to lead others, building trust, clarifying expectations, giving feedback, and managing team dynamics, all in just a few minutes per episode. These episodes are short, sharp, and focused, so you can listen on the go, reflect at your own pace, and apply what works for you. So, if you're ready to become brilliant at the basics and develop your leadership, this is a great place to start. Here's an exercise that you can easily do. This coming week, reflect on what's working and what's not working for you as a team leader. And, more importantly, what you'd like to do to develop yourself further. And that's another one simple thing. Thanks for tuning in. Remember, small steps can lead to big changes. Test out this one simple thing and notice how it transforms your day.
