Welcome to Leading People with me, Jerry Murray. This week it's One Simple Thing, where in each episode I share a quick, actionable tip to help you bring out the best in yourself and others. One simple thing is created for young leaders, but hey, us older folks can still learn a thing or two. Ask my dog, he's learned a few new tricks recently. Here's a question for you. When people work for you, do they feel energized or exhausted? Do they feel safe enough to speak up, or are they just keeping their heads down? Over the years I've had both types of bosses, and I'm sure you have too. One who was so toxic that I literally developed a stress-related illness, and another who created the kind of environment where I could grow, contribute, and thrive. The difference it wasn't in their expertise or experience, it was in the climate they created around them. You see, well-being at work isn't just about yoga classes, free fruit, or beanbags. It's about the invisible emotional environment that leaders either protect or pollute. So here's today's one simple thing. Take stock of the climate you're creating at work. Just ask yourself, are people tense around me or at ease? Do they leave our interactions more energized or more depleted? Am I modeling sustainable working habits or quietly encouraging the burnout? This isn't about being soft, it's about being smart because when people feel safe, supported, and seen, they do their best work. So if you want to boost your team's well-being, start by checking the weather system that you're generating as a leader. Are you the sunshine or the storm? If you want to take this further, our team leader essentials and accelerating performance programs are designed to help leaders just like you bring out the best in yourself and others. And our well-being module gives you practical tools to assess and enhance the emotional climate in your team. Check out the link in the show notes. And that's another one simple thing. Thanks for tuning in. Remember, small steps can lead to big changes. Test out this one simple thing and notice how it transforms your day. Let me know how you get on.
